Cogan, Edward. CATALOGUE OF A VERY CELEBRATED AND VALUABLE COLLECTION OF GOLD, SILVER AND COPPER COINS AND MEDALS, THE PROPERTY OF COLONEL M.I. COHEN, OF BALTIMORE. New York: Bangs, Oct. 25-29, 1875. 8vo, original printed wraps. 102 pages; errata slip tipped in; 2400 + 1 lots (added lot in manuscript); 2, of 4, very fine mounted photographic plates. Hand-priced with buyers’ names throughout in pencil; occasional other interesting notes. Closed tear in first two leaves (no loss); spine weak, with front wrap detached but present. Very good or so. Inscribed in ink at head of title: “W Poillon of Bethune St.” Adams A: “Extensive proof gold. Silver center 1¢. 1804 $1. AU 1804 25¢. Superb English. 20 assay medals. Many early proofs.” Present is the plate depicting rare United States silver coins (including 1794 & 1804 dollars) and a few colonials and the plate illustrating a choice silver center cent, some colonials and large cents. While Cogan plates are very frequently encountered faded, these images are rather sharp. Ex Harry W. Bass library (Kolbe Sale 78, lot 177), where it brought $650.
