United States Government. AMERICAN STATE PAPERS. DOCUMENTS, LEGISLATIVE AND EXECUTIVE, OF THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES, FROM THE FIRST SESSION OF THE FOURTEENTH TO THE FIRST SESSION OF THE TWENTIETH CONGRESS, INCLUSIVE: COMMENCING DECEMBER 4, 1815, AND ENDING MAY 16, 1828. FINANCE. VOLUMES III-V. Washington: Gales & Seaton, 1834-59. Three volumes. Folio [33.5 by 23.5 cm], contemporary tan half morocco with marbled boards; spine with four raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt; marbled endpapers. vii, (1), 837, (1), x, (2); vi, (2), 1077, (1), xiii, (1); ix, (1), 1143, (1), xv, (1) pages. Complete with the separate indexes to each volume. Ex Harvard’s Baker Library, with bookplates and deaccession stamps, but with no other obvious library markings. First volume with some staining, but it is light and not intrusive. Other volumes very near fine. A prime source of information relating to the early operations of the United States Mint and American coinage and currency. These volumes cover material printed between late 1815 and 1828. Rare and seldom offered; only 300 to 500 copies of the various volumes were originally printed, nearly all of which ended up in institutional libraries. Included herein are the Mint Reports for the period covered, as well as other governmental reports dealing with the Mint and matters affecting coinage. The American State Papers comprise a complete record, distilled from the Congressional Record, of all Government reports and documents relating to American finance, of which coinage is treated as an integral part. An indispensable tool for those interested in conducting serious research in the field of American numismatics.
