A prototype of this notable sale catalogue, along with a copy of the final product. In late 1972 Steve Markoff acquired the Admiral Bitler collection of United States large cents from Abe Kosoff. Michael Graham began cataloguing the collection for sale at auction but soon realized that he was not equal to the task. He enlisted the services of Jack Collins, who in turn recruited Walter Breen to help with the 1800-02 dates. Collins also arranged for Del Bland and Dane Nielsen to grade the collection. Envisioning a handsome quarto format, Collins had the prototype offered here made for presentation to Steve Markoff, principal of A-Mark. Unfortunately, Michael Graham, A-Mark's customer service manager, decided to economize by printing the catalogue in small format and also decided (with less than ideal results) to print the catalogue in brown ink. The prototype is rare, with this being the first copy we have offered since the 1993 New York book auction.
