Reid $2.50. 1849 Mormon $20. $50 gold (5).” A notable sale featuring fifty lots of encased postage, pioneer gold coins, rare United States gold and other coins. Following the 1945 Flanagan, Bell and Hall auctions, the Wharton catalogue capped the firm’s most successful year, with proceeds from the four sales totaling $366,968.50. At the end of the prices realized list, the Stacks proclaim: “We believe that never in the history of American Numismatic records have there been sales of such magnitude conducted by any one dealer in the United States in so short a time.”
