Schulman, J. L'AMÉRIQUE, L'ASIE, L'AFRIQUE ET L'AUSTRALIE. COLLECTIONS DE A.L., R.W. BIGNELL, FOSTER ELY (DOUBLES), À SANTESSON. Amsterdam, 9 janvier 1911 et jours suivants. (4), 108 pages; 2537 lots; 3 halftone plates. Near fine. [with] Schulman, J. CATALOGUE OF THE IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF THE LATE MR. FERNAND DAVID OF PARIS. FIRST PART: THE COINS AND THE MEDALS OF AMERICA. Amsterdam, 11 March 1930. (2), 32 pages; 642 lots; 7 fine plates. Fine. Two catalogues. Both 8vo, original printed card covers. Two Schulman sales with significant American content. The "Collection renomée de Mr. A.L." featured many colonial and American federal coins, pioneer gold, choice large cents, etc., over twenty of which are depicted on the first two plates. Ely's duplicates featured early American medals. Scarce. Were the Fernand David catalogue listed in Adams, it might well qualify as an A sale. Lots 1-39 comprise Canadiana; 40-71 American colonials; 72-88 Washingtonia, etc.; 89-244 gold, silver and copper American coins; 245-251 pioneer gold; 252-367 Betts medals; 368-423 other American medals. Plate I largely depicts colonials; plate II large cents, half cents and rare silver; plate III pioneer gold; plate IV medals. The remainder of the sale is devoted to Spanish and Latin American coins and medals, including West Indies cut and countermarked pieces. Clain-Stefanelli 10539.
