Beistle, M.L. A REGISTER OF HALF DOLLAR DIE VARIETIES AND SUB-VARIETIES. BEING A DESCRIPTION OF EACH DIE VARIETY USED IN THE COINAGE OF UNITED STATES HALF DOLLARS AS FAR AS THE ISSUES ARE KNOWN, COVERING THE UNITED STATES MINT AT PHILADELPHIA, AND BRANCHES AT NEW ORLEANS, SAN FRANCISCO, CARSON CITY AND DENVER. Shippensburg, 1929. 8vo, original full brown flexible morocco, gilt; all page edges gilt; interleaved. xxxiii, (1), 261, (1) pages; frontispiece portrait of the author; portrait plate of David Proskey; primer chart; 7 fine photographic plates. Only the slightest rubbing. Fine. No. 133 of only 135 deluxe interleaved copies issued with photographic plates. Though scarce and desirable now, deluxe Beistles were not immediate numismatic bestsellers. In 1943, at the November 9–10 Parke-Bernet sale including Colonel E.H.R. Green’s numismatic library, four lots of 25 copies each were offered, along with 189 copies of the regular edition. Abe Kosoff apparently purchased one or more of the bulk lots at the sale and was retailing deluxe Beistles well into the 1960s. Clain-Stefanelli 12243.
